Indiana Native Finds His Home in Tampa, FL

Our story began with Walter “Red” Castor, named for his auburn hair and sunburnt skin. After moving to Florida from Indiana, he began work with Miller Products before accepting a position with Tropic Kitchens. During that time, he established relationships with builders in the Tampa area.

In 1977 Red walked into Key Bank of Tampa determined to build a business of his own. Using his mother-in-law, Mable’s house as collateral, he took out a loan to open Castor Inc. With an eye for detail and passion for craftsmanship, the business grew; luckily for Red, Mable got to keep her house.

Since then the Castor family has been providing Tampa with quality cabinetry -created with the styles of the present and built for the demands of the future.

The Castor Legacy

Red could not have created Castor Inc. without the constant support of his family. Red’s eldest son, Brian helped him develop the business from its inception in 1977. Three years later, Red’s youngest son Kelly joined the Castor team.

Together, the three Castors built a solid business foundation, surrounding themselves with dedicated employees and passion-driven projects.

Over time, more members of the Castor family joined the company. During her time at the University of Tampa, Jane Castor worked at the shop in the summer. After graduating with a degree in Criminology, Jane went on to be the city’s police chief. and in 2019 became Tampa’s mayor. After raising five kids, Carolyn Castor (Red’s wife) entered the work force and spent twenty-five years with The Tampa Tribune. Upon her retirement from The Tribune, Carolyn came to work at Castor Inc. as the Office Administrator before retiring.

With over forty-three years of business and three family generations, the Castor’s had a major impact on the Tampa cabinet industry. We’ve spent nearly half a decade serving thousands of families and homes in our community, crafting visions into realities and creating kitchens that become the heart of a home.

As we look to the future, we are proud of the reputation created by Red Castor and the legacy built by his sons and family. In 2018, Kelly’s son Alex joined the Castor team, adding a third generation to the Castor legacy.
